I'm Kavita Ramchandran, an illustrator, designer, dreamer and doer of my own Make Believe Design Studio (no, really). I grew up in Bombay, and moved to New York in 2001 to pursue an MFA in Design at the School of Visual Arts. After graduating, I created a pre-school property for Nick Jr. called Maya, and developed it into interstitial shorts for their 'My World' cultural series. I then spent a few years working as a designer for the children's textbook market at Bill Smith Studio (now called QBS learning) and art directing Kahani - an award-winning children's literary magazine that illuminated the richness and diversity of South Asian cultures. (www.kahani.com) My time at Kahani (which means story in Hindi) made me realize that I needed to illustrate, write and design my own stories and I haven't stopped since. If I'm not at my desk working, you might find me daydreaming about elephants, the Monsoon sky, or pomegranates.
